Denali National Park – Day 3 and 4

Denali National Park Entrance

Ok……. We had a great day in the Park yesterday but a dreadful night in our Phaeton last night. There is a valley running north south along Alaska Hwy 3. Our RV park is about 8 miles north of the park entrance on the west side of Hwy 3 near Antler Creek. The valley funnels the wind through it as we have found out these last few days. The RV park owners tell us that winds such as we have experienced over the last few days are unusual. I’m finding that hard to believe. Gusting winds up to 35 mph throughout last night made it very difficult to sleep well. The toppers on our slide outs kept flapping noisily in the breeze all night long. I almost brought the slides in but was too lazy to get out of bed. Still windy today but on the positive side, any smoke from fires still burning around here is long gone.

Our Favourite Two Mushers (At the Back)

Yesterday afternoon, we all took a drive into the Park to take in the sled dog demonstration. It was quite interesting to see the dogs in action. After that, a bit of early supper….fish and chips for all four of us, followed by some shopping for the girls while Jim and I walked around a bit and enjoyed a nice cup of coffee while we waited.

Savage Rock

I spent all morning today trying to get my iCoach modem problems sorted out. I was emailing iCoach and calling Telus on my tracfone. I’ve updated my PRL list on the USB modem and still can not connect up here, even though I am getting a 3 bar signal. Needless to say, I am not impressed and will be looking for another internet solution if matters are not resolved in short order.Chris and I took another run into Denali to drop off some postcards at the post office this afternoon and then also drove through the park in our Vue as far as Savage rock at Mile 12. Lots more pictures as you can see.

Train Tressle in Denali National Park

Almost forgot. The girls have started redeeming themselves in canasta play. They won for the first time the other night. Luck or skill? We shall see next time.
