Kenai, Alaska

Veronica’s Coffee House

Today was spent in the Soldotna area. Chris and I went for a short run outside early this morning. My knee felt much better than it has over the last 7 weeks since we left Ottawa. Now to get back into shape. We found a great paved bicycle path along the road from Soldotna to Kenai to run on. In fact, we have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of bicycle paths in Alaska. Most are paved as well. Had we only known, we would not hav eleft our bicycles in Whitehorse.
Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, Kenai

This afternoon we went back to Kenai and visited the Russian Orthodox Church you see in the photo above. It has been in existence since 1841, well before Alaska was purchased by the United States. The priest gave us a history of the church. He served here for many years but is now retired. Across the road from the church, we found Veronica’s Coffee House, where we enjoyed a great cup of coffee and shared a piece of apple pie.
