Solomon’s Gulch Hatchery

After a rainy afternoon and wonderful fish and chip supper, we all headed out to Solomon’s Gulch Hatchery about 10 minutes out of Valdez. You would not believe the number of salmon trying to head up the fish ladder. The water in front of the fish ladder was absolutely teeming with salmon. There had to be tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of pink and chum salmon heading to spawn. Absolutely amazing!! Signs warning of bears in the area were posted all over the place, but we did not see any. Hoping to go back early in the morning to photograph bears catching salmon if all goes well.
