Boy, the time is just flying by! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at TT Pio Pico and had a great time seeing the sights in and around San Diego. The highlight of our stay by far was photographing the brown pelicans on the bluffs in La Jolla. Definitely one of our favourite places and we are planning to come back here again in the future. These last few days since New Years, we really enjoyed playing pickleball most mornings with our good friends Jim & Jane, Bob & Julie, Alan & Trudy and Brad & Sandy. Brad & Sandy were our neighbours and came out to play pickleball for the first time with us. They are both checking out ordering paddles online, so we think they are hooked! There were times we were laughing so hard that it was hard to hit the ball. Gotta love those lob shots into the sun.

Yesterday was our last day at TT Pio Pico. The girls went shopping in the afternoon, while I busied myself putting things away around PP. Jim & Jane and Bob & Julie came over to play canasta after supper. We had a great time and those two have picked up the game very fast. We played three hands with boys versus the girls. The girls managing a slim victory in the end. All too soon, it was time to say our final goodbyes before we hit the road this morning. More than a few tears were shed by everyone after canasta. Jim and Jane have become such good friends these past two years since we met them both at TT Peace River in Florida. Also, we have been with them almost non stop since July 2009 while we all toured Alaska together. We shall miss their smiling faces very, very much. Funny how two couples can have so much in common. They start heading back to Florida in the coming days and are then moving back to England later this spring, giving up the RV lifestyle for the time being. Our offer still stands if you decide you both need to get out of the cold and wet of old Blighty next winter. Love you both to bits and miss you already.
We were up early this morning and ready to hit the road for Palm Desert before 8 am. Jim and Jane ran out to say another tearful goodbye as we rolled past their site. Way too many tears again……. We headed out on 94W to 125N and then on to I-15 north. We turned east on Newport Rd past TT Wilderness Lakes on towards Hemet. Our Garmin took us north on Sanderson Rd through Hemet to Hwy 79. We again encountered quite a bit of construction due to road widening on Sanderson Rd. In retrospect, we should have turned north on Hwy 79 which is just west of Sanderson Rd in order to avoid the construction. Good thing it was Sunday, so not too much traffic. We continued on up to I-10 and then turned east towards Palm Desert, stopping at Flying J on Ramon Rd for fuel and propane. I disconnected the toad while fueling so Chris could go on ahead to TT Palm Springs to get us checked in and find us a good site. She did a fine job too. We managed to score site 342 which is one of the unused lease sites at the back of the park behind the pickleball courts and about as far from noisy I-10 and the railway tracks as you can get. 50 amp to boot too! Set up was a breeze. Managed to back up easily between and around the palm trees which are everywhere in this park. Our datastorm roof mount satellite dish had no trouble locking on to satellite 99W and we have all our Bell ExpressVu channels too. So here we are all set up until Jan 14th……life is good!
We popped by to see Dennis and Barb and their new motorhome. Very nice! Later, we met up with them and Bob & Julie for supper at Mario’s. Their spaghetti and meat sauce is excellent and as usual was way too much to eat. Looks like some tasty leftovers for tomorrow.
