Guardian Angel Catholic Church, Wallis, TX
We’ve had some interesting weather here the past few days.  Wednesday was forecasted to be sunny and warm but it rained all day.  We had planned on touring a classic car museum in Rosanky but it is only open on Fridays and Saturdays, so that didn’t work out.  Instead, we drove into Columbus and looked at some of the old buildings dating back to the late 1800s.  The chamber of commerce has a self guided audio tour of the town’s historical buildings where visitors can tune to various AM radio stations at the sites to hear a little more detail about the historical significance of each building.  Interesting, but far too wet to be out taking photos, besides I forgot to take my battery out of the charger! Had my camera, but no battery. Doh!!
Thursday, we drove into Katy, just west of Houston to visit Forbidden Gardens.  Guess what, it was closed, apparently only open Friday & Saturdays as well!!  We never even thought it might be closed during the week.  Oh well!  So there we are wondering what to do……hmmm, city=stores=shopping!   What’s a guy to do but smile and go along.  (Chris not smiling right now). She learned from the best (Jane).  Didn’t buy any shoes though (too funny).   We stuck to the back roads on way back to Columbus, preferring to stay off I-10.  That was the right decision because it took us through the small town of Wallis where we saw Guardian Angel Catholic Church.
Some technical notes about the photo.  Using a tripod, I took three separate photos, at -3, 0 & 3 EV.  Exposure was 1/8 sec at f 18.  No flash used, just lighting inside the church.  I then used Photomatix Pro to to sandwich all three photos together.  That gave me pretty good detail throughout highlights, mid tones and shadows as well.  Even the stained glass windows have detail and color in them.
Tomorrow, we leave TT Colorado River, heading for New Orleans area.  Planning to overnight at a Cracker Barrel in Lafayette, LA.
