Louisburg, Nova Scotia

Today was moving day.  We left the KOA park just before 10 am and headed for Louisburg for a couple of days.  It was only an hour drive.  There was a little road resurfacing near our campground entrance on Hwy 22.  We are staying at Lakeview Treasure and RV Park in Catalone, located just 8 km from Louisburg.  We are here with Passport America for $20/night.  This is a rustic little campground with many seasonal sites but they also have about 15 overnight sites with 30 amp, full hookup and free wifi.  We drove into Louisburg to have a look around town.  It is a very scenic coastal village with a natural harbor where the Fortress of Louisburg is situated.  There is also a great lighthouse on a point opposite the fortress.  There are at least 3 RV parks right in Louisburg.  We checked out one that is right on the harbor.  Very nice and not very busy yet.  For some reason though, that park never surfaced on our google scan before coming here.

The old Sydney/Louisburg train station is definitely worth a visit.  The S&L line has not been in service for many years but the old station has been restored and is now a nice museum.  Admission is free but they do take donations which helps with the upkeep.  Lots of train memorabilia inside.

Chris and I are off to explore the Fortress on our own tomorrow.  There is quite a bit of walking involved and her mother is not up to that.  We are also planning a return trip to lighthouse point so we can experience the new hiking trail that just opened last week.  Weather for the next 4 days is supposed to be excellent with lots of sunshine and blue sky.
