What’s Your Sleep Number?

Our Phaeton motorhome came with a king size Sleep Number bed which we love.  Our Bounder Diesel also had one but it was a queen size.  The Sleep Number mattress looks like an ordinary mattress but has two inflatable air chambers inside, one on each side, instead of the usual metal springs and stuffing.  It comes with an electric compressor complete with wireless remote control enabling each of us to separately inflate each air bladder to our individual preferred level of firmness.

About a month ago my side of the bed began losing air….and yes I am sure it was the mattress losing air and NOT me!  It had to be either a leak in my air chamber or possibly a faulty diaphragm in the compressor.  I called Sleep Number in the USA toll free and they were very obliging in fixing our bed under warranty.  After describing the symptoms, Sleep Number thought it might be the compressor and quickly sent out a new one to us here in Ottawa.  It arrived two weeks later but after a quick installation, the air loss still persisted.  I called them back and they said the only other thing it could be was a faulty air chamber.  Two weeks later, a new air chamber arrived.  We installed it on Sunday and everything is fine now.  Turns out that a piece on the end of the air valve on my old air chamber had snapped off, leaving the bladder without an “O” ring to prevent air loss.

Anyway, problem solved and I am sleeping normally again.  Oh yeah, our numbers are 55/35.

Our numbers are 70 because it will lose air during our nights sleep. :( Our bed is 3 1/2 years old and off warranty. We still like the bed, though. We just have to always check it before going to sleep at night.

It is so nice to see companies that still believe in customer service!! That speaks volumes for Sleep Number!! Glad you got your bed working again. :-)

We like our queen size Sleep Number bed, but the sides are breaking down, where we sit on the side getting in and out of bed. The company has been really good about replacing the pump (twice) and the remote control, now wireless. We'll see what they can do about the sides. Your post has reminded me that I need to call them. Our numbers are 35 (me) and 40 (him).

  4. Oh yeah! We have a king size in our home and we LOVE it (5 years now)! He's at 55, but I tend to fluctuate between 30 to 45, but usually 35.

Interesting about the air loss problem; I noticed one corner on hubby's side seems to be much softer than the rest of his side of the bed … we'll have to check the air bladder and see if there's a problem.

And oh yeah … our numbers are 60/50 :-)

Well, my sleep number is '0' as we still have a regular old mattress. I've heard a lot about the sleep number beds but haven't tried one yet.
