Hike In The Desert

Our last day at Catalina Spa so we decided to fore go pickleball this morning and go for a nice hike in the desert around the campground.  We followed Corkhill Rd out for a mile or so and  did a big circle that put us up onto some hills overlooking several campgrounds and offering a great view of the Coachella Valley looking back towards the Morongo area.  Lots of small lizards skirting around in the sand as we walked and we also saw quite a few jack rabbits.  Strange looking things with long legs and ears and much too fast to get on camera.
We saw other people out hiking and stopped to chat with another Canadian couple that was staying at a different campground.  They told us of several more hikes they had done and we made a mental note to try at least one of those hikes when we return to Catalina Spa for another week in March.  We saw something odd quite some distance away that definitely looked man made but we couldn’t figure out what it was until we got a little closer.  A lazyboy recliner perched up on a small gravel knoll made a perfect photo op for Chris so she grabbed this one of me occupying my throne. No TV or remote control though unfortunately.

This last photo is of a small memorial cairn erected near the lazyboy recliner.  Quite a few names have been added to over time.  We head back to Thousand Trails Palm Springs in the morning for our last three week stay of this winter.  Our friends Dennis & Barb pulled into Catalina Spa as we were leaving on our hike and are here for a couple of weeks.
