Birmingham Shopping

Today’s activities included a driving tour into Birmingham and then a walk about the refurbished downtown core which really is quite fabulous with all kinds of new buildings including huge convention and shopping centers, a new library presently under construction and also the wonderful canals complete with the long boats seen in the photograph below. Many of the long boats are live aboards, with others fully functioning restaurants and tour boats. The above photo is of Selfridges in Birmingham. Quite the building from the outside! Both photos taken with my iPhone 4. The long boat photo is a panorama shot taken with the Photosynch iPhone app and is a composite of 6 photos stitched together in the app. If you look closely, you can see several seams in the sky and water areas where the stitching is nor quite right. Very close, but still not 100%.

That shot in the middle is really cool. I like the color of it too.

LOL boy sleep was a mission for you both… England is wonderful and a child often went with my GrandMum (she was born in Ireland) – I have grand memories of our visits. The fresh veggies in their food – yummmm

Internet connections are the strangest things. My wife's company has an office in Reddings Lane, which I realise isn't quite Solihull, but I knew that sounded awfully familiar. She's over there a couple times a year, and we had the choice to live in Birmingham in March of 08 when her overseas job was first offered. We chose to live "on the continent" as the Brits call it. If you decide to drive, watch out for that left front tyre. (Well OK, 'tire') Seems folks from other parts of the world driving in the UK tend to wander over to the left a little too far. Not that I would know anything about that, but I did receive a strong warning from the co-pilot at one point when I nearly did it myself.
I'm sure all of England is slightly abuzz with Friday's big event.

    Have fun.

We are a relatively young country compared to England..and I would love to see the great historic places of our "motherland"..However, I would have to be knocked out for the flight..LOL
