Just Chilling…….

Christmas has come and gone for another year and many people are already packing up their decorations for another year.  We generally leave ours up until the New Year before stowing them back in the bowels of Phaeton Place…now that certainly has an ominous tone to it!  Weather has been just great while the kids were here visiting, although it has cooled off quite a bit in the last two days with day time highs now only on the mid 60sF.  Still very nice and sunny, just a little cool when we take Teddy out for his morning and evening strolls.  We’ve noticed many USA stores are advertising post Christmas sales.  Dec 26th is Boxing Day in Canada & the UK and retailers usually have some pretty good deals.  Our Boxing Day is very similar to Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the USA….line ups everywhere.  I’m sure all the sales are helping the bottom line of all the retailers.  Chris, Matt & Sarah ventured out shopping yesterday at some of the Outlet Malls and apparently it was a zoo.  No surprise there!  Quite a few impatient drivers in the parking lots too.  Definitely glad that I volunteered to stay home and look after Teddy.

The kids had a great time sharing one of the rental cabins here at TT Orlando.  They got to know each other a little better.  Basically they all just slept there and spent most of their time either here in the motorhome, around the pool, sightseeing, or shopping.  Lindsay and Casey headed back to Buffalo on Monday afternoon, while Matt & Sarah spent the last two nights of the weekly rental in the cabin.  They arrived back at the motorhome with all their luggage this morning and will stay in here with us for the rest of their time in Orlando.  Chris took them over to Old Town Disney for the day while I again volunteered to stay home with Teddy.  We’ve got another week left here in Orlando until we head back to Peace River on Jan 5th.I’ve been mulling over the idea of switching my computing platform from Windows to MacIntosh.  MacIntosh always seems to have a better following among photographers but I was always a little leery of switching.  I’ve spent the last few weeks doing my research and also had a good look at Sarah’s Mac Book Pro which she brought with her.  A trip to the Apple Store at Florida Mall before Christmas helped make up my mind and I have ordered a new Mac Book Pro 17″ model from Amazon.  In fact, it should be here later today.  One of my main concerns was possibly having to buy Mac versions of all my software but Adobe does a pretty good job of allowing cross platform switching.  Lightroom was an easy download for the Mac version but with Photoshop CS5 I have to deactivate my windows version and submit a form requesting a new copy of the Mac version.  I was surprised to see that I couldn’t just download the Mac version and use my old serial number to activate it, but nope, Adobe actually insists on mailing me a new copy of the Mac version of Photoshop CS5, so that won’t get here for a couple of weeks.  Not the most modern way of doing business in an electronic world, but it will have to do.  I can always download the Mac trial version of CS5 which is good for thirty days, so no worries there.

So there you have it for this post.  Teddy & I are enjoying a quiet day at home while I anxiously await the arrival of the Fedex truck bearing gifts.

We switched to the Mac platform June 2010 … and haven’t looked back. I kick myself for resisting for so long.
