Florida Moon

Julie & Chris had a great day over in Bradenton yesterday.  Little shopping, little sunshine on the beach, little lunch and a little more sunshine on the beach.  Teddy & I spent the morning at the pickleball courts.  Lots of people playing and I spent some time teaching a little court strategy to those who wanted to learn.  Temps are still getting down into the upper 40sF overnight so I usually have to throw on a sweater for Teddy’s morning walk but by the time we walk up to the pickleball courts after a bit of breakfast, temps have risen to a more comfortable level so no jacket or sweater required.  We managed to score a full hook up site yesterday afternoon.  Bob gave me a hand hauling a few things over to our new site.  It was easier loading mats etc into the back of his truck instead of stowing everything underneath in Phaeton Place.  I had everything all set up by the time the girls got home before supper time.  I even pinched a picnic table from the empty annual site next to us on F row.  Shhh….don’t tell anyone!

Chris has the sniffles today so didn’t play pickleball this morning.  I came home early from the courts and spent some time this afternoon trying to import my Quicken files into iBank 4 on my Mac Book Pro.  There really isn’t much choice for MacIntosh based personal finance software out there.  Quicken Essentials for Mac is still available but is obviously somewhat dated now and also incompatible with Mac’s Lion software.  Apparently Quicken is working on a patch to make it work with Lion but that won’t be until later this year.  I’ve used Quicken on Windows machines for almost 20 years but over the past several years I’ve become more and more disenchanted with Quicken so it makes sense to change over to a more reliable Mac based personal finance software package.  Once I get all my Quicken files updated, I’ll import them into iBank 4 and see how things go from there.  iBank comes with a free 30 day trial so I have time to check it out.

A little grocery shopping at Walmart this afternoon and also a badly needed stop at a local barber shop to have my ears lowered.  While walking Teddy along the nature trail down by the river this afternoon, we spotted Stumpy, the three legged alligator that has been making the banks of the Peace River her home for quite a few years.  She was laying on a sandbank on the opposite side of the river basking in the sun just down stream from where people usually dig for fossils in the river.  From our vantage point we suspect that she is on a nest.  Hopefully I can get out with my camera and tripod tomorrow afternoon as the sun goes down for some nicely lit photos.  Stay tuned on that front.

Last night was a full moon but tonight wasn’t too far off, so I got out my camera, tripod, 500mm lens with doubler and my cable release to grab a few shots of this Florida moon in the night sky above TT Peace River.  A few people stopped to ask what I was taking picture of in the dark and were a little surprised how large the moon actually was using my equipment.  No cropping on this shot at all.  Just a little contrast adjustment using Topaz Adjust 5.  Enjoy!

I’ve got Quicken on my Mac (running Lion); different from Quicken for Windows, but I’m getting the hang of it.

Nice to see the weather warming up a bit again down your way. Good picture of the moon. Looking forward to a picture of the alligator. Hope the i bank 4 program works well for you.
