Morning Mist Afire

I was up early this morning and down by the lake with my new Canon 70-200 f/2.8 ISM II lens mounted on my camera and sitting on a tripod with my finger anxiously waiting to trip the shutter with a cable release.  Sunrise in Orlando was at 7:25 am and this shot came shortly after that.  I even dialed in 50 ISO to try and keep the noise in the shadows as low as possible.  Mist hugging the waterline slowly rose as the sun warmed the air making it look like the water was on fire.  About ten minutes before I took this shot, an owl flew in from my right and landed in a tree just off camera to the left of the spanish moss in this shot.  The owl sat on a branch about ten feet off the ground and less than 20 feet away from me.  I sat as still as possible and watched the owl scanning the water line for a couple of minutes, likely looking for his breakfast, before it flew off.  I’m pretty sure the owl never even saw me.  Unfortunately, it was still pretty dark so there was no way I could even hope to get a decent shot of the owl.  Perhaps some other time.  What a great way to start a day!

We spent today getting organized for our trip to Cummins South in Ocala tomorrow morning.  Chris had the inside of Phaeton Place all buffed up and clean by noon.  I dumped our tanks and took on a little water for our overnight at Cummins South tomorrow.  We’ve got just about everything stowed away except for water, sewer hoses and our power cord so getting going in the morning shouldn’t be too tough at all.  Our last bit of mail also arrived in the park today.  We also learned that TT Orlando is now accepting all mail for guests staying in the park.  That includes USPS letter mail, parcels, Fedex, UPS, etc.  Earlier this month we ordered a decal of a mini schnauzer with Teddy’s name on it for the small window in the bottom of our door.  It was only $10 but still hadn’t arrived after two weeks.  Turns out the company sent the decal to us via USPS letter mail which until last week wasn’t accepted at TT Orlando but instead held at the local post office as general delivery mail.  I asked in the park’s mail room today if they recalled a letter arriving with my name on it.  Lo and behold, they had it stored in their new filing cabinet. The decal looks great in the window of our door but you’ll have to wait for a photo of it.
