Mill Race Trail Wildlife
Another hot day today but it didn’t get really hot until after lunch. In fact, it was cooler than in recent days this morning so we packed up Teddy and decided to go for another hike. Last week we did an out and back hike on Health Valley Trail along the Conestogo river which started and finished from the public parking area in St Jacobs. Today, we thought we’d see where the Trans Canada Trail trailhead is near the Walmart just down the road from Green Acre Park. It took a little looking and it wasn’t marked very well but we did find it. Chris even asked at the Best Western Hotel and the Information Centre but nobody knew how to access the trail from anywhere other than St Jacobs. The trail runs along Hwy 85 for about 1 km before finally meandering through trees that provided welcome shelter from the sun. We each wore our Tilley hats today and they did wonders keeping us cool. Trans Canada Trail eventually intersects with Health Valley Trail and follows the banks of the Conestogo river right into St Jacobs. Teddy jumped into the river quite a few times on the way in and on the way back to our car. Our midway reward today was a repeat lunch at Stone Creek Bakery. Everything tasted wonderful and before long we were retracing our steps back towards Walmart where we had left the Vue.
