A Second Thanksgiving Dinner!

Busy times in Waterloo area.  We’ve sorted out a different site for next summer at Green Acre Park and are happy to be taking over the site presently occupied by our friends Dale & Sheila.  Our seasonal lease runs May 1, 2013 to Oct 31, 2013.  Phaeton Place is all ready for the trip south to Florida beginning November 1st.  We popped up to Hanover for the weekend to spend time with family.  Lindsay and Casey met us up there and we enjoyed a second Thanksgiving dinner, this time at John & Karen’s place.  My father in law even made it down from his retirement home for the afternoon and it was great to catch up with all that is going on with him.  We arrived in Hanover on Friday afternoon and immediately stopped in at our storage facility to put a few more items into storage for the winter.  Our next stop was at the local police service to pick up our background checks which are required by Tanglewood RV Resort in order to solidify our seasonal spot.  I’ve never seen background checks required for any other park except for this one and it is a complete waste of time and needless expense in my estimation….but, it is what it is.

Green Acre Park ReflectionThe ladies cooked up a storm with all the standard Thanksgiving delicacies including turkey, dressing, gravy, potatoes, turnips, cranberry, etc.  Desserts included assorted pumpkin pies and a wonderful pumpkin pie cheesecake as seen below.  Yowser was it ever good too!

Regular readers will know we lost our Progressive Industries surge protector last week.  It got a little hot and had to be removed so I could send it back to PI for reconditioning.  Our transfer switch appears to have one slightly discoloured braided cable on the shore power switch, so just to be on the safe side, I ordered in a new transfer switch from Tiffin.  Tiffin shipped it to us via UPS instead of the usual USPS shipping we’ve had in the past.  UPS saw fit to tack on a brokerage fee of almost $70 upon delivery which is tantamount to highway robbery in my estimation.  When I called UPS about this charge they explained it was a charge unique to UPS for shipments coming into Canada from the USA.  USPS and other international courier companies don’t charge this fee…….just UPS.  Can’t help but feeling ripped off!  I’ll argue with UPS about this “fee” later.  Right now, we need the transfer switch so McPhail’s can install it for us on October 25th.

Hard to believe they need a Police Check to stay at a park! What is next?

My sentiments exactly! I’ll wager nobody has ever been refused a seasonal spot at Tanglewood because of a less than satisfactory background check either. But it is what it is. More hoops to jump through I suppose.
