Our First Road Trip

Well the day has finally arrived when we pack up everything from our site at Green Acre Park and depart for points south. We have been very busy since Chris returned from Nova Scotia. We spent a few days in Camp Borden with Sarah & Matt. Casey came up from Toronto on the bus and the three of us drove to Ripley to visit his grandmother before spending Saturday night at John & Karen's in Hanover. Supper in Hanover was fabulous! Thank you John & Karen. It was back to Waterloo on Sunday morning with Casey so he could catch the bus back to Toronto. Lindsay & Colin drove up from Hamilton Sunday evening to join us for dinner at Springrolls and then spent the night with us in the bus. Their first time seeing the bus since we bought it in July and they were both impressed. Lindsay & Colin headed out yesterday afternoon which left us plenty of time to get the bus ship shape for our trip south. We were pooped by late afternoon after a busy week of traveling and seeing family. Bill & Laurie very generously invited us for supper last night which we both appreciated very much.

Today is our last full day at Green Acre Park and it too was a busy one with trips to the bank, post office, dentist and grocery store to grab a few basics to keep us going until we cross into the USA on Thursday morning. I even managed to order a number of items online for delivery to Red Bay. We've decided to go with Straight Talk SIM cards for our iPhones operating on the AT&T network instead of using T-Mobile as we did last winter. AT&T appears to have far better coverage in Sebring, FL than T-Mobile and for less money each month too. I ordered nano SIM cards from Amazon. We can port our old phone numbers over to Straight Talk

I also decided to pull the trigger on a battery watering system. I've heard these systems make topping up batteries much easier and reduce maintenance time significantly by allowing all batteries to be filled simultaneously from one container of distiller water. Works for me!

The weather has improved locally. The rainy weather of the last two weeks appears to have abated somewhat and we've enjoyed sunny skies the last couple of days. Cold, but sunny and we'll take that over rain any day. All sites, including our site at Green Acre Park are very water logged. Thankfully, we are pretty well ready to go. A little laundry to do in the morning and while I get the outside ready to leave, Chris plans to take the short drive to the bulk store in St Jacob's for a couple bottles of maple syrup before we leave.

Our plans are to hit the road for the Flying J in London by early afternoon tomorrow. We've got a short stop to make in Tilsonburg but plan on overnighting at Flying J. Thursday morning we'll be on the road early so we can cross the Blue Water Bridge into the USA and hopefully have smooth sailing south last Detroit. Weather forecast is calling for rain on Thursday but with very mild temps, so we'll take that. We'll find a Walmart or Cracker Barrel somewhere in Kentucky for Thursday night and haven't yet decided where we will shut it down on Friday night. We hope to be in Red Bay by noon Saturday.

Let the fun begin!
