Another early start yesterday morning from Hershey, PA as we continued our final push north on I-81 into New York State. We made one final stop for fuel at the Flying J in New Milford, PA. The road in and out of this Flying J is absolutely abysmal. It is littered with potholes and crumbled asphalt so use this station at your own risk. Parts of I-81 in upper Pennsylvania were atrocious as well but it's been like that for years so why fix it now.
Last year we crossed near Kingston but this year we thought we'd cross at Ogdensburg, NY instead which is a little further east and directly south of Ottawa. It cost $8.00 US to cross the bridge and there was no waiting at the border crossing. We declared the Air Force 1 braking system and Blue Ox baseplate we bought in the USA for our new Ford Edge and paid the tax on it. It's always a bit hit and miss whether taxes will be levied or not. Today was a tax day I guess. But it wasn't that bad and was still cheaper than if I had purchased it in Canada.
We arrived at our campground in the east end of Ottawa just before 5 and are at Recreation Land in Cumberland for a month before heading on to Nova Scotia. We have a pull through site with 50 amp service, water, sewer and wifi. The sun is shining this morning and we'll head to the car dealership to pick up our new Ford Edge after a bit of breakfast. Actually, they need a day to install the Air Force 1, baseplate and LED lights…..so we won't get the Edge until tomorrow. But we hope to take it out for a test drive this morning.
