York

We've enjoyed a wonderful month in England but are eager to get back to Canada. The weather in Filey area has been wonderful with only four rainy days during our entire time here, a huge contrast with the rain experienced in the south of England to be sure. Our neighbor in Filey graciously offered to run us into Scarborough train station on Tuesday morning where we enjoyed reserved seating on our way to York. We spent two nights at the Hampton by Hilton hotel on Toft Green which is only a very short walk to the train station. We were all checked into our very spacious room shortly after 2:00 pm and then set off immediately for a walk around the walls of this old city. The complimentary breakfast provided each morning was simply superb. We spent two days wandering around the old city checking out York Minster, York Dungeon, The Shambles, Clifford Tower and other areas. Walking almost thirty kilometers in the two days we were there, ensured a good night's sleep after each busy day. Here are a selection of iPhone photos taken during our stay.

On Thursday, we were again on the train to Manchester Airport where we spent one night at Clayton Hotel at the airport. Dinner consisted of halloumi, a Cypriot unripened cheese on a bed of couscous and baby lettuce for me and fish & chips for Chris. We even managed to get in a nice walk along the surprisingly busy roads of the airport after dinner. Thankfully we could use the sidewalks.
