We left TT Hershey just before 8 am under sunny skies and began our day long trek back into Ontario. As expected I-81 north was busy in places. The worst road conditions were in Pennsylvania but PenDot was out in force fixing potholes following the winter thaw. We stopped for fuel at the Flying J in New Milford, PA. The highway off ramp and entrance into the Flying J are still in very bad shape and nothing seems to have been repaired since last year but we made it in and out unscathed.
We crossed into Ontario at Ogdensburg, NY without incident. One of our easiest crossings ever actually. Only two cars ahead of us at the border when we arrived. A couple of quick questions by the customs agent followed by our appropriate answers and we were on our way. Chris swapped out the USA Sim cards for our Telus cards on our iPhone and also unplugged our Verizon mifi as we drove north to Ottawa. The weather was fabulous the whole way with temps in the upper 60s F south of the border and then over 70°F when we arrived at Camp Hither Hills in Ottawa just before 4 pm
Our campsite still doesn’t have running water because the ground is still frozen. The campground isn’t officially open until May 1st but the owner thinks another couple of days before the water is running. We arrived with a full tank of water though so we aren’t overly concerned. We can get water from a nearby tap by running a bunch of hoses too if necessary. Lots more sunshine in the forecast for Ottawa for the rest of the week so we are taking credit for that. After all, we did bring the warm weather back with us.
