Expedia Sucks!

Black Crowned Night Heron

We packed up the Edge and headed for Ottawa with Teddy last week.  Chris is presently recovering well from a day surgery procedure done in Ottawa.  Many thanks to friends in Carp for lending us their home while they are at their cottage.  It was just easier for us to leave the Bus in Nova Scotia at Chris’s dad’s place as we have a very busy seven weeks of travel lined up between now and early September.  Lindsay and Colin get married on August 1st in Ancaster, ON.  We’ll run Teddy up to Sudbury after that where he will enjoy staying with our friends Tony & Christine while we head for England for a month to check on my mother and the house in Filey.

I’m a little disappointed in Expedia.  We used Expedia to book ourselves a pet friendly hotel in Edmundston, NB for one night on our way to Ottawa.  They had us booked into a flea bag motel called La Roma but the motel had no pet friendly rooms when we arrived at 3 pm. The manager says Expedia is bad for not notifying the motel when a pet friendly room is required.  He offered to put us into one of their old cabins but after looking at it, we decided to move on to another hotel in the area. He canceled our reservation but it still wound up costing almost $30 for the cancellation fee.  Better than paying the full one night fee but still….  I called Expedia on my cell phone and we got a reservation for one night at the Quality Inn instead, but still no apology or compensation from Expedia for what was entirely their error.  So thirty minutes later we are at the Quality Inn only to learn that Expedia had again not noted our need for a pet friendly room.  Thankfully, Quality Inn did have a ground floor pet friendly room available.  I called Expedia back to complain but my complaint fell on deaf ears.  Actually, I checked the nightly rate on both hotels on Expedia and on the hotel websites as well.  Guess what…….it’s cheaper to book directly with the hotel because the hotels also offer discounts for seniors, CAA, government, etc while Expedia does not.   Lesson learned ….we won’t be using Expedia ever again.

I’ve got my laptop with me so I’ve reached back into last winter for the in flight photo of the Black Crowned Night Heron which was taken this past spring at Venice Rookery.  The old derelict house was taken in Whitney Pier on our recent trip to Cape Breton.  Chris’s aunt used to live in this house years ago and as a little girl, Chris always thought it was haunted.

Tiffin Motorhomes has stepped up again at help us solve the last of our warranty issues.  I spoke with Bob Tiffin at length and he agreed to have the parts we need sent to McPhail’s of Harriston, where we bought the Bus in July 2013.  McPhail’s has promised me they can do all the repairs we need to have done, plus our annual engine, chassis, aqua hot and generator service as well. We are booked in there for Oct 22 and 23rd.  Bottom line, we hopefully won’t have to go to Red Bay at all in November and can instead head directly for Riverbend.  Yay!!
